Year 1:
Lays the foundations for the study of civil engineering through Mathematics, Engineering Science, Civil Engineering Design, Computing and Professional Skills. The application of fundamental engineering principles is demonstrated through integrated tutorial work, laboratories and practical projects.
Year 2:
Introduces various key aspects of civil engineering, including Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Engineering, Geology, Surveying and Construction Technology.
Years 3 and 4:
Continues the study of Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering and Water Engineering, with an increasing emphasis on design and project work. The course is broadened to include Water and Environmental Management, Transport Planning and Traffic Engineering. The fundamentals of business and management are also introduced. BEng students complete an individual project on a topic of their choice in their final year.
2023 entry requirements
Standard entry:
4 or 5 Highers at AAAB or AABBB including Maths at A (or Maths at B and a science subject at A or B) plus English at National 5. Higher English preferred.
Widening Access entry:
4 or 5 Highers at AABB or ABBBB including Maths at A (or Maths at B and a science subject at A or B) plus English at National 5. Higher English preferred.
