Dumfries Campus
This course will provide you with the skills and attitudes that will help you in achieving progression to becoming an apprentice in plumbing. As well as learning mainly practical skills and a small amount of theory in plumbing you will also learn other necessary transferable essential skills that employers value such as health and safety, working with others, problem-solving, basic numeracy, communications, and Information Communications Technology (ICT).
Practical elements of this course cover:
Introduction to plumbing tools and techniques; Introduction to hot and cold water systems; Installing and connecting plumbing appliances; Introduction to drainage systems; Safe erection of scaffolding.
1 subject at National 5 plus 3 at National 4, or 5 subjects at National 4, including English, Maths or a science subject. Interview and pre-entry test.
It would be hoped that the course would act as a stepping stone into a Domestic Plumbing and Heating at SCQF level 7 craft apprenticeship. Employment within the industry at this stage would be necessary.
