This course will provide you with the skills and attitudes that will help you in achieving progression to becoming an apprentice in painting and decorating. As well as learning mainly practical skills and a small amount of theory in painting and decorating you will also learn other necessary transferable essential skills that employers value such as health and safety, working with others, problem-solving, basic numeracy, communications, and Information Communications Technology (ICT).

Practical elements of this course cover:
Introduction to painting and decorating tools and techniques; Preparing surfaces for decorating; Learning about colour schemes; Applying paint by brush and rollers to walls and ceilings; Applying a range of decorative effects such as woodgrain; Applying wallpapers to walls and ceilings; Learning how to erect scaffolding.

Entry Requirements

1 subject at National 5 and 3 at National 4 including English, Maths, or a science subject. Or 5 subjects at National 4 including English, Maths or a science subject. Interview and pre-entry test.
