This course aims to provide a solid foundation in a range of construction trade skills. It promotes the experience of working with others in a practical construction environment and gives opportunities for employment at a basic skill level in the construction industry. To achieve this, students will learn about the skills and attitudes that employers are looking for, how to work effectively with others and what to expect when in the workplace.

During the course the timetable will be made up of practical workshops, classroom based learning sessions and directed study using ICT and the College's virtual learning environment (Moodle). During the course you will gain experience in the use of construction tools and equipment and develop an appreciation of the interdependence of various building trades in the construction industry.

The course covers a broad range of practical construction trade skills including:
Carpentry and Joinery; Bricklaying; Plumbing; Painting and Decorating

Subjects also include:
Health and safety in the construction industry; Employability and Behavioural Skills; Sustainability in construction; Communication; Numeracy; Information Technology

Entry Requirements

National 4 English and Maths, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4. Selection by interview.

Relevant NC or relevant course at SCQF Level 6.
