This hands-on course provides students with a unique opportunity to explore the world of decorative painting, focusing on traditional methods and contemporary practices. Designed for those with a passion for creativity and an interest in developing specialised skills, this course equips students with the knowledge and practical expertise needed for success in a variety of creative and construction roles.

Students will gain extensive practical experience in the following core areas:

Signwriting; Gilding; Marbling; Graining; Construction Health and Safety; Sustainability in Construction; Preparing Complex Surfaces for Decorating; Applying Paint by Brush and Roller; Applying Non-Standard Coverings to Walls and Ceilings.

In addition to these key areas, the course introduces students to a range of other decorative painting techniques, including glazing, stencilling, and textured finishes, encouraging experimentation and creativity.

Students will work on a variety of projects, both individually and collaboratively, with opportunities to apply their skills to practical, real-world contexts.

Entry Requirements

1 relevant subject at National 5. You will be expected to have a basic knowledge of colour theory, surface preparation, and standard painting techniques. Interview.
