Content

This introductory course gives hands on experience of what a future in construction could be. You will try your hand at basic joinery, painting & decorating, brickwork and construction operations in the workshop to build your understanding of each of these trades and help you to decide which route is right for you. You will also participate in some classroom-based theory units to support a deeper understanding of the construction industry in general and build your core skills.

Subjects studied include:
Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction; Introduction to basic joints in Carpentry & Joinery; Introduction to basic Painting & Decorating techniques; Introduction to Brickwork including constructing a wall; Introduction to Groundworks including setting out and laying paving slabs; Theory based units including numeracy, communications and local investigations.

Entry Requirements

National 4 English and Maths; or National 5 Applications of Maths plus National 4 English; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4.
