Biochemistry is the study of life at the molecular level. This can range from things like the normal functions of metabolism to DNA replication and repair. It also includes the function of proteins carrying information within and between cells.
Knowing what happens in normal cells helps scientists understand why things go wrong, and what happens when they do.
Our course curriculum is shaped by the work of our world-leading researchers to make sure you’re learning the latest advances. This will also help you gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the field.
This course also allows you to spend a year working in industry, for example, in a commercial laboratory. This allows you to gain real-world skills and improve your CV. It also presents you with the opportunity to network and build relationships. These are all things that could have a positive impact on your career upon graduating from university.
2025 entry requirements:
4 Highers at BBBB (BBCC for widening access entry) including Biology and Chemistry plus Maths at National 5 at B.
Advanced entry to 2nd year available with Advanced Higher Biology and Chemistry at AB or BA plus Highers at BB plus Maths at National 5 at B.
