This exciting programme prepares you to apply scientific principles to help address some of the most significant problems facing the Earth today. By combining the disciplines of geology and physical geography, the BSc Geoscience helps you develop a deep understanding of challenges, including climate change, natural hazards, population, energy and natural resources, interactions between humans and the environment.

Year 1: Global Worlds, Global Challenges; Global Worlds, Local Challenges; The Earth through Geological Time; Earth’s Materials.

Year 2: Mapping & Monitoring the Environment; Introduction to Field Geology; Petrology & Mineralogy; Physical Environments; Stratigraphical Principles; Skills and Techniques in Geosciences.

Year 3: Field and Mapping Techniques; Montane Environments; Research Design; Remote Sensing and GIS; Techniques in Physical Geography; Volcanology.

Year 4: Project; Laboratory data acquisition and analysis.

Entry Requirements

2025 entry requirements

4 Highers at BBBB (by end of S5) including 2 maths or science subjects by end S6 plus English, Maths and Chemistry or Physics at National 5. Those with Highers at BBB by end of S5 are encouraged to apply.

For second year entry you would require the above plus 3 Advanced Highers at ABB including Geography and a maths or science subject at AB or BA.

Widening access entry:
2 Highers at BB (by end of S5). Additional Highers/Advanced Highers in S6.

1 Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a non-essential Higher.
