Law involves not only the study of legal rules, but the development of intellectual qualities such as clear, careful and independent thought; precise use of language; the capacity to analyse and solve complex problems; the ability to present arguments in a clear, reasoned and logical manner; the power to distinguish the relevant from the irrelevant; and, generally, thoroughness of inquiry.
Year 1: Criminal Law; Foundations of Private Law; Legal System; Contract; UK Constitutional Law; Delict and Unjustified Enrichment.
Year 2: Administrative Law and Civil Liberties; EU Institutions and Law; The Law of Property; Commercial Organisations and Insolvency; Family Law; Introduction to Legal Theory; Succession and Trusts.
Year 3: Evidence; Commercial and Consumer Contracts; Two Honours (Advanced) courses.
Year 4: Four Honours (Advanced) courses; Dissertation.
2025 entry requirements
Standard entry:
AAAA or AAABB including English at National 5. Higher English preferred. Those with Highers at BBBB by end of S5 are encouraged to apply.
Widening access entry:
4 Highers at BBBC including English at National 5. Higher English preferred. Additional Highers/Advanced Highers in S6.
1 Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a Higher.
