This is a well established and popular course which has recently been updated to meet the demands of the sports coaching industry. It is designed to provide a foundation for anyone wishing to enter the field of sports coaching and sports development. In addition, this award will provide learners with the opportunity to gain national governing body coaching awards.

Year 1:
Sports Coaching Theory and Practice; Coaching of Sports; Coaching Children; Conduct and Ethics for Coaching; Inclusive Sports Provision; Psychology of Sports Coaching; Sports Development; Work Placement; Research in Sport and Fitness; Health Screening; Fitness Testing for Sport; Principles of Fitness Training; Anatomy & Physiology; First Aid; Sports Injuries; Graded unit 1.

Year 2:
Improving Coaching in Sport; Coaching of Sports Performance Development; Sports Coaching in an International Context; Managing Volunteers in Sport; Developing Potential in Sport; Sports Development and Research; Psychology of Sports Performance; Managing a Sports Event; Fitness Conditioning in Sport; Sports Mechanics; Graded units 2 & 3.

Entry Requirements

Higher English and Physical Education plus 3 subjects at National 5 including Maths or a science subject; or Pathway to Fitness, Health and Exercise; or other relevant qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview and practical test.
