This course is a great starting point that introduces you to the world of early learning and childcare, helping you understand what it’s like to work in this rewarding field.

You’ll explore the basics of working in early learning and childcare while building essential skills like teamwork and planning fun play experiences for children. You’ll also develop key employability skills, such as being reliable, staying adaptable, solving problems, and reflecting on your progress. This course will help you gain confidence, set goals, and prepare to succeed in the workplace.

Units include:
Child development; Play in early learning and childcare; Contemporary Families; Outdoor learning?and working with children from various childcare settings (Nursery, Schools and Childminders).

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. You will be selected by interview and a short written task.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

Successful candidates can progress to SCQF Level 5 courses in Childhood Practice and Childcare or other SCQF Level 5 courses across West Lothian College.
