The HND Electrical Engineering course will develop your ability to analyse and solve electrical engineering problems, and apply knowledge, understanding and skills to electrical systems, but also has a strong emphasis on practical skills and is intended for those interested in developing skills for a highly paid career in this exciting and respected industry.

The award provides a broad based technical education for those intending to start a career in electrical engineering or who wish to progress to university to study at degree level.

Content includes:

Electrical Engineering Theory includes:

Electrical Principles; Electrical Safety; Power Systems and Power Electronics; Control Systems and Transducers; Renewable Energy Systems; Electrical Machines and Plant Maintenance; Electrical Installation Design; Mathematics (including Mathematics options for university entrance).

Practical hands on work includes:

Software Programming in C++; Programmable Logic Controllers; Electrical and Electronic Instruments; Electrical Wiring Skills; Analogue and Digital Electronics; Power Supply Circuits; Build an Engineering Project.

Entry Requirements

Higher Maths or Physics; or Higher in a technological subject plus Maths at National 5; or Foundation Apprenticeship Engineering; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6.
