The BSc (Hons) Chemistry provides you with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills you need for a career in the dynamic fields of drug research, environmental analysis and forensic science. With an emphasis on strong academic content and theoretical underpinnings, practical experience and modern chemical instrumentation, this degree focuses on analytical chemistry and health-related fields.

The course includes practical aspects to develop your analytical, problem-solving and numeracy skills. Small-group workshops, tutorials and presentations will improve your communication and presentation skills, making you attractive for a successful career in chemical sciences. In addition, there is the option to undertake a paid 12 month industrial placement between years 3 and 4.

2025 entry requirements
Standard entry:
4 Highers at BCCC including Chemistry.

Entry to year 2 is possible with 3 Advanced Highers at CCD including Chemistry plus a science subject at National 5.

Widening access entry:
4 Highers at CCCC including Chemistry.

Progression Routes

As a graduate of Chemistry, you will have developed a range of flexible skills which will be suitable for a career in chemical research, industry, commerce, technical sales, management or teaching. Some examples of job roles include a process Chemist at Beecham, laboratory supervisor at BNFL Sellafield, and a medicinal chemist with Scottish Biomedical. Chemistry graduates are also sought by non-scientific employers such as stockbrokers.
