This interactive online course introduces the basics of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) also known as Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). It focuses on language analysis, teaching methodology and lesson planning and you will acquire a toolkit of ideas and gain confidence in your ability to start teaching or to apply for a further teaching qualification. Learners living in/near Dundee will be given the opportunity to observe experienced teachers and gain valuable skills by working as volunteers in our ESOL classes. These opportunities will be discussed during the course and will take place during the course or after it has finished.

Attendance is required on Tuesdays 5.30-8.00.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have an interest in learning how to teach English as a Foreign Language but no previous experience is required. Speakers of other languages require a level of English at Upper-Intermediate/B2 or above.

Fee Waiver: If you are a current FT D&A student, or if you or your partner receives benefits, are eligible to claim benefits or are on a low income, you may qualify.

Progression Routes

Learners can progress to employment where a formal TEFL qualification is not required or to further teacher training courses. Participants are guaranteed an interview for our CELTA course.
