Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
As a discipline, Sociology has emerged from a historical context of social change. Studying sociology helps you think critically about social issues and encourages you to question common beliefs, increasing your understanding of different cultures, races, and social backgrounds, and fostering empathy and appreciation for diversity. This awareness prepares you to engage with important societal challenges as an informed and active citizen.
Join this Sociology PDA at SCQF level 7, with options to study either or both of our dedicated modules, and consider society, from its origin to its development, and how it’s explained by competing perspectives. Develop your understanding, on academic and practical levels, of key social concepts such as socialisation and social order, as you learn to question and explore why society is organised in the ways that it is.
Gain the communication and people skills that allow you to connect with a wider variety of individuals and navigate complex social situations, improving your opportunities to work in careers which require an understanding of the complex relationship between the individual and society, including public service, criminal justice, health, business, and advertising.
You will study the following core modules:
Sociology A: Introduction to sociology; Sociology B: Applying sociological theories and studies to sociological topics.
