This course allows you to study for one year to HNC level, giving you a broad understanding of the social sciences, or continue for two years to complete the full HND in more depth. During the course, you’ll be introduced to fascinating sociological and psychological theories that explain human and societal behaviour and develop your critical analysis and problem solving skills. You’ll also explore the role of research in the social sciences and carry out your own independent research project.

You will be introduced to the purpose of research in the social sciences and learn how to apply this in all subject disciplines. As part of the course, you will also carry out independent research.

The HND course provides in-depth study in the main social science subjects including:

Sociology; Psychology; History; Politics; Philosophy; Geography; Criminology.

Please note that the course content will vary slightly between campuses.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers (1 at B) including English and a social science subject, or NC Social Science (Level 6).

Progression Routes

Degree level study, with 1st, 2nd or 3rd year entry available at some universities.
