Content

This joint honours programme is your opportunity to study two of the world's most widely spoken languages in their global cultural contexts.

In addition to your language classes, you will explore aspects of Russian-speaking and Spanish-speaking cultures. Courses cover literature, film and theatre from around the world, studied in historical, political and social context.

Year 1:
If you have no previous knowledge of Russian you will study Russian Studies 1A. If you have studied the language before, you will take Russian Studies 1B. Both of these courses also explore Russian culture.

You will study either Spanish 1A or 1B, depending on your language skills. Typically, students on Spanish 1B come to University with substantially more experience of studying Spanish than students on Spanish 1A.

Year 2:
You will continue to study Russian language, expanding your range of vocabulary and using increasingly complex grammar. Students of 1A and 1B will come together in the Spanish Language 2 course.

Year 3:
You will spend Year 3 abroad, dividing your time between two countries. This is when you will really deepen your knowledge of Russian and Spanish by speaking them daily and immersing yourself in local cultures. Although students are not currently sent to Russia and Ukraine, the university are still able to fully support them to spend time studying abroad, for example, in Estonia or Armenia.

Year 4:
You will develop your advanced language skills in Russian and Spanish. You will also choose from a wide range of specialist, honours-level courses in Russian Studies and Spanish and Latin American Studies.

You will also complete a dissertation in Russian or Spanish.
