The HNC Childhood Practice consists of 12 credits of mandatory Core, Optional and Practical units of learning. You will also undertake a practical training placement in an Early Learning and Childcare Setting which will enable you to complete three units of the SVQ 3 Social Services: Children and Young People.
Core units: Care in contemporary society; Leadership starts with me; Health wellbeing and safeguarding; Lifespan development theoretical approaches; Support for play learning and development or playwork opportunities; Graded Unit 1.
Optional units: Language literacy and numeracy; Supporting children and young people’s behaviour; Supporting children and young people with additional support needs.
SVQ practical units: Promote Effective Communication; Promote Health, Safety and Security in the Work setting; Develop your Practice through Reflection and Learning.
2 Highers including English; or Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services: Children and Young People; or PDA Education Support Assistance; or NC Early Education and Childcare; or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 6; or SVQ Playwork at SCQF Level 6.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
