This is a nationally-recognised professional qualification and if you successfully complete it, you’ll achieve early learning and childcare (ELC) practitioner status. You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the different care, learning and development needs of children and young people in line with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). You’ll also do a work placement which will help you gain an SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Young People qualification and start your career in an early learning setting.

Some of the subjects you will study may include:
Health, safeguarding, welfare and rights; Pedagogy in practice; Developing reflective practice.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers including English; or Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services (Children and Young People), or NC Early Education and Childcare, or relevant SVQ at SCQF Level 6 in Childcare or Playwork. You should have significant experience of working with children in a voluntary or paid capacity.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
