HNC in Childhood Practice is a nationally recognised professional qualification for people who want to work within the Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) sector.
This course provides you with an integrated programme of theory and practice that will help you develop an understanding of the different care, learning and development needs of children and young people.
Core units (6 credits): Care in contemporary society; Leadership starts with me; Health wellbeing and safeguarding; Lifespan development theoretical approaches; Support for play learning and development or playwork opportunities; Graded Unit 1.
Optional units (3 credits) may include: Language literacy and numeracy; Supporting children and young people’s behaviour; Supporting children and young people with additional support needs.
SVQ practical units (3 credits): Promote Effective Communication; Promote Health, Safety and Security in the Work setting; Develop your Practice through Reflection and Learning.
2 Highers including English; or Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services (Children and Young People). Or NC Early Education and Childcare, or relevant SVQ 2 in Childcare or Playwork. You should have significant experience of working with children in a voluntary or paid capacity.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
Relevant HND or Degree study, or SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 9.
