This course provides a good introduction to working as a plumber as well as including necessary core skills that employers value such as: numeracy, communications and Information Communications Technology (ICT).
You will gain an understanding of some of the basic installation and servicing principles required in the plumbing industry and get an insight into the working environment in which a plumber might be expected to operate.
Practical elements of this course cover:
Introduction to plumbing tools and techniques; Introduction to hot and cold water systems; Installing and connecting plumbing appliances; Introduction to drainage systems; Safe erection of scaffolding.
1 subject at National 5 plus 4 at National 4 including English, Maths or a science subject. Or 6 subjects at National 4 including English, Maths or a science subject. Interview, advice session and pre-entry test.
It would be hoped that the course would act as a stepping stone into a Domestic Plumbing and Heating at SCQF level 7 craft apprenticeship. Employment within the industry at this stage would be necessary.
