This HND Year 2 follows on from the HNC year and it gives learners the knowledge and skills necessary to work as professionals within the sector. The topics include Coaching Theory and Practice, Sports Development, Anatomy & Biomechanics, and Professional Practice (Including research skills). This HND includes an embedded, industry recognised Professional Development Award in Sports Coaching that is jointly certified by Sportscotland and CIMSPA.

This course combines elements of theory with practical application. It is ideal for those with wish to develop a deeper understanding of the sector and the wide variety of career paths available. It is expected that candidates will undertake placements in a community setting utilising a range of client groups including children, and disability. This provides opportunities for candidates to engage in a workplace environment and gain relevant industry experience to prepare them for employment. The course is assessed in a holistic approach utilising a variety of assessment methodologies including practical observations, portfolios, and group work.
