This course will provide you with the skills and attitudes that will help you in achieving progression to becoming an apprentice bricklayer. As well as learning mainly practical skills and a small amount of theory in bricklaying you will also learn other necessary transferable essential skills that employers value such as health and safety, working with others, problem-solving, basic numeracy, communications, and Information Communications Technology (ICT).

Examples of practical elements of this course that you will cover are:

Half brick walling with return corners; One brick walling with stopped ends; Block walling; Cavity walling; Constructing simple arches and decorative brickwork.

Entry Requirements

1 subject at National 5 plus 3 at National 4, or 5 subjects at National 4, including English, Maths or a science subject. Interview and pre-entry test.

Progression Routes

Bricklaying at SCQF level 6 craft apprenticeship. Employment within the industry at this stage would be necessary.
