Content

This course allows you to develop an understanding of both the theoretical and practical issues relating to a career in sports coaching for indoor or outdoor sports.

Mandatory units are:
Anatomy, physiology and energy systems; Coaching and developing sport: graded unit 1; Coaching children; Coaching of sports: an introduction; Conduct and ethics for sport and fitness practitioners; Research in sport and fitness: an introduction; Sports coaching theory and practice; Sports development: an introduction; Workplace experience.

Optional units may include:
Assist in a sport or fitness related event; First aid for sport and fitness; Fitness testing for sport; Flexibility training; Foundations of outdoor activities; Personal development planning; Prevention and rehabilitation of sports injuries; Principles of fitness training; Psychology of sports coaching; Safe practice in outdoor activities; Strength and conditioning: an introduction.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers at C or above, preferably English and Maths or a science subject; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6.

Relevant HND or 2nd year BSc Hons Sport and Fitness or Sports Management.
