Chinese is the most-spoken language in the world. At St Andrews, Chinese studies focus on the linguistic and cultural entity that is China and the Chinese-speaking world today.

Go beyond language acquisition and be exposed to the breadth and depth of Chinese cultural practices. Chinese studies encompass mainstream, popular and dissident cultures, in all their national, regional, ethnic and diasporic diversity.

Entry Requirements

2025 entry requirements

Standard entry:
4 Highers at AAAB plus English and one from Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geography, Physics or Psychology at National 5 at B. Applications of Maths will be accepted but must be at National 5 at A.

Widening access entry:
4 Highers at AABB plus English and one from Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Geography, Physics or Psychology at National 5 at B. Applications of Maths will be accepted but must be at National 5 at A. (You may gain entry to the Gateway programme with 4 Highers at BBBB).

French required at A (F)
History required at A (at B for widening access entry) (H)
