Abertay University was originally founded as the Dundee Technical Institute in 1888. It lies right in the heart of Dundee city centre, and all its campuses are within a quarter of a mile of each other.

Courses and students

The university is based around four schools and a range of specialist centres.
The university offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Abertay is well known for its world-leading courses in computer arts and computer games technology and launched the world’s first Ethical Hacking degree.
There are around 4,500 students, representing over 60 countries.
Facilities and services
Abertay University has many great facilities to offer its students including White Space located on the ground floor of the university’s Kydd Building; the award winning Bernard King Library which includes fully equipped seminar rooms, study rooms and a language centre; a Student Centre which is the cultural and social hub of the city campus; and Abertay Sport, which plays an important part of university life, with 24 sports teams on offer. The Hannah Maclure Centre provides an informal and cultural space for students including a state-of-the-art cinema and performance stage, and the Students’ Association offers a wide range of societies covering all interests.
Abertay University sits in the top 10 for teaching quality in the 2021 Sunday Times University of the Year list, and ranks amongst the UK top 10 for Student Satisfaction in the National Student Survey.
The prestigious Princeton Review (2021) rates Abertay as the top institution in Europe for video games education for the 7th year in a row.
