A career in primary education is both challenging and rewarding, inspiring the learning of future generations
Year 1: Education modules are studied alongside two other HaSS subjects. A 70-hour community placement forms part of the learning experience. Progression to year 2 of the Primary Education programme is determined by selection interview.
Year 2: Students choose to continue their studies in one HaSS subject alongside their Primary Education classes. Classes cover primary level curriculum subjects and prepare students to undertake a First Level placement in a Scottish primary school. A range of option modules are available from across the faculty to support interdisciplinary learning.
Years 3-4: All classes focus on Primary Education and preparing students for the teaching profession. In year 3, students undertake placement in an Early level setting, and there are two further school-based placements in years 3 and 4. International study options are available in year 3. In their final year, students complete a dissertation study on an area of professional interest and there is also an opportunity to develop subject expertise through a choice of specialisation classes.
