Degree Programme Structure and Content: The programme leads to a qualification to teach children in the 3–12 age range with registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland. Over four years, it combines academic study with practical inquiry in a variety of school settings and their communities. Following graduation, the new teacher network provides continued opportunity for academic and professional development.
This programme will prepare teachers for the challenges and changes facing the profession in the twenty-first Century. Students will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and values required in primary teaching.
Year 1: Five courses in education exploring the role of a teacher, learning theory, child development and learning in a Primary classroom.
Year 2: Five education courses including placement in school exploring teaching in core curricular areas.
Year 3: Seven education courses including placement in an early/ first level classroom, further study curriculum and additional support needs.
Year 4: Five education courses with two placement opportunities, a focus on interdisciplinary learning and professional enquiry in a chosen aspect of teaching and learning.
2025 entry requirements
Standard entry: 4 Highers at BBBB (by end of S5) including English plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5.
Widening access entry: 4 Highers at BBBC (by end of S5) including English plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5.
1 Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a non-essential Higher.
