This SWAP Access to Humanities (Secondary Teaching) course is designed for adults returning to study without formal qualifications. It offers a supportive and structured route to rebuild academic confidence, develop your research and communication skills, and explore how teaching, learning and society connect.
You’ll engage with themes of learning, curriculum, culture, society and change — preparing you for degree-level study in education, social sciences or humanities.
Successful completion of this course provides recognised entry routes to partner universities, including:
University of Glasgow; University of Strathclyde; Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU); University of the West of Scotland (UWS); University of Stirling.
Topics include a range of social science subjects, including Psychology, Sociology and Politics, History and Philosophy, Communications and Literature (Higher level), Mathematics (National 5 Applications) and Preparation for Higher Education.
In preparation for Higher Education students will also develop study skills and research skills. Candidates will be assessed using essays, class-based exams and presentations.
No formal entry requirements, but applicants must have good written and spoken communication skills. Applicants must have been absent from formal education for a minimum of 3 years. An interview and undertake a written exercise forms part of the recruitment process.
Degrees in Teaching, Social Work, Law, Arts and Social Science by securing places at the University of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Stirling, Caledonian University and The University of the West of Scotland.
