This course is an ideal entry point anyone wishing to become a heavy vehicle technician and consists of two parts, an Award and Certificate. The qualification covers the technical needs for today’s heavy vehicle repair industry, including basic processes, principles, and foundation skills. It provides essential knowledge for technicians working on heavy vehicles of all types in garages and dealerships.

This qualification could provide a stepping stone to employment and/or career progression within the heavy vehicle sector.

The programme involves studying both the theory and practical aspects of:

Heavy vehicle construction and routine maintenance; Operating principles of heavy vehicle engines, tyres, brakes, steering and suspension systems; Operating principles and maintenance of heavy vehicle transmission systems and electrical and electronic systems.

Assessments are in a dedicated heavy vehicle workshop environment and by online multiple choice testing.

National 4 English and Maths, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4
