This qualification covers the technical needs for today’s Heavy Vehicle repair industry, including the diagnosis of complex system faults and advanced systems operation. It provides the essential knowledge for service technicians working in Heavy Vehicle garages and dealerships.

The qualification is recognised by the Sector Skills Council as a VRQ/Technical Certificate and can be used as knowledge evidence in a related Modern Apprenticeship programme.

This programme involves studying both the theory and practical aspects of diagnosing and rectifying:

Engine and Component Faults; Chassis System Faults; Auxiliary Equipment Electrical Faults.

Assessments are in a dedicated Heavy Vehicle workshop environment and by practical tasks, short written answers and online multiple choice testing.

Entry Requirements

Heavy Vehicle Mechanics (HGV) (VRQ) Level 5, or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5.
