This course is aimed at people with a passion to work in the motor vehicle industry.

Develop your knowledge and skills in light vehicle maintenance and repair, including diagnostics, braking, fuel and transmission systems.

This course is certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Content includes:
Light vehicle wheel and tyre construction; Applying engineering techniques in an automative setting; Light vehicle braking system components; Health and safety; Spark ignition engine system components; Vehicle steering and suspension system; Spark ignition system maintenance; Air and liquid cooling system components; Preparation to become a vehicle driver; Compression ignition engine system; Reducing risks when driving vehicles; Lighting system maintenance; The retail motor industry; Compression ignition fuel system maintenance; Routine vehicle maintenance processes; Electrical foundation skills; Vehicle driveline maintenance; Lubrication system components and operation; Tools, equipment and consumable materials for light vehicle maintenance; Light vehicle exhaust system components and maintenance.

Entry Requirements

2 subjects at National 3 including English, Maths or a science subject.
