The BSc Hons Mathematics with Education enables students to complete a four year Honours degree in Mathematics together with the teaching qualification required to teach Mathematics in secondary schools.
The course will allow you to develop a range of transferable skills as well as Honours-level knowledge and skills in Mathematics and Statistics combined with attaining the General Teaching Council for Scotland's (GTCS) Standard for Provisional Registration. When you graduate you will be eligible to apply for provisional registration with GTCS, and entry to the Teacher Induction Scheme as secondary school teachers of Mathematics. Teachers of Mathematics would also be fully equipped to deliver material in Statistics at secondary school level. The degree prepares you for teaching Mathematics and Statistics to advanced/senior school level (up to SQA Advanced Higher level).
The BSc will provide you with a broad and balanced understanding of key areas of Mathematics and Statistics, with options to individualise your degree in Years 1 and 3.
The study of Education is introduced in Year 3 with the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a professional setting through high school experience placements in Year 4.
2021 entry requirements:
4 Highers at BBBC including Maths plus English at National 5.
Entry to year 2 may be possible with 3 Advanced Highers at CCD including Maths plus English at National 5.
Please note: Higher English must be attained before entering year 3.
