This fast-track course covers the same units and course framework years one and two of a Modern Apprenticeship, meaning that after successful completion and with proven experience and suitable motor trade employment you may start an apprenticeship in year 3.

The units are mainly automotive based and are selected to provide a broad spectrum of fundamental skills required for this trade area.

Subjects Include:
Health and safety, customer relations, and organisational structures; Automotive servicing; Automotive engine systems; Automotive auxiliary electrical systems; Automotive chassis systems (steering, brakes and suspension); Automotive vehicle inspections; Introduction to metal inert gas (MIG) welding; Electrical and Electronics Maintenance; Engineering bench skills; Employability skills; Communication; Numeracy; Information computing technology; Problem solving; Working with others.

Entry Requirements

National 5 English, Maths and a technological subject, plus Transport Maintenance (IMI) Award Level 1 preferred; Interview and aptitude test.

Automotive engineering Modern Apprenticeships in Automotive; Possible access to HNCs within the engineering department
