Education Support Assistants are generally employed within schools to support the work of class teachers in learning activities. Education Support Assistants are often involved in supporting and supervising tasks set by teachers to individuals and groups of pupils. This can be in primary schools, secondary schools and sometimes in the private childcare sector.
Subjects include:
Child development; Supporting behaviour in an education setting; Supporting children and young people who require additional support for learning; Supporting children with autism; Developing professional practice in an education setting; Children's rights; Supporting language, literacy and numeracy in an educational setting.
3 subjects at National 5 including English plus National 4 Maths, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 5. Experience of working with children is preferred but not essential.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
