This active and enjoyable course forms the first year of an HND programme. It is designed to provide the knowledge and coaching skills required for successful progression to HND Coaching and Developing Sport, coaching in the community or work in sports development. Close partnership links with schools and local community groups ensure “real life” practical coaching experience. Teamwork between staff and students ensures professional skills are developed for the workplace. You will also have the opportunity to gain National Governing Body awards in a range of sports.
The course involves study of :
Sports Coaching Theory and Practice; Conduct and Ethics for Sports and Fitness Practitioners; Research in Sport and Fitness: An Introduction; Anatomy, Physiology and Energy Systems; Coaching of Sports: An Introduction; Sports Development: An Introduction; Work Experience; Coaching and Developing Sport: Graded Unit 1 and Coaching Children.
1 Higher; preferably English, Biology, Human Biology, Physical Education or Psychology; or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Interview may be required. Personal Statement is required.
