Content

This course allows you to develop an understanding of both the theoretical and practical issues relating to a career in sports coaching for indoor or outdoor sports.

Year 1 Core Units:
Sports Coaching Theory and Practice; Conduct and Ethics for Sport and Fitness Practitioners; Anatomy, Physiology and Energy Systems; Coaching of Sports: An Introduction; Sports Development: An Introduction; Workplace Experience; Coaching Children; Research in Sport and Fitness: An Introduction; Coaching and Developing Sport: Graded Unit 1.

Year 2 Core Units:
Fitness Conditioning in Sport; Sports Mechanics; Improving Coaching in Sport; Coaching of Sports; Performance Development; Sports Development and Research; Coaching and Developing Sport: Graded Unit 2; Coaching and Developing Sport: Graded Unit 3.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Candidates require a good performance background in a variety of sporting activities. Experience in coaching, while desirable, is not essential, although the potential to develop this competence must be evident. A keen interest in sport is a requirement for this award

Progression Routes

On successful completion of this course you may progress to the BA (Hons) Sports Management.
