This course develops skills and knowledge for a career in hairdressing and the service industries. Learners will develop competence and efficiency in all aspects of hairdressing and the ability and confidence to meet the needs of the hairdressing industry


Students will be able to enhance their hairdressing skills by participating in a work placement one day per week.

Year 1:
Consult, assess, plan and prepare for hairdressing (Year 1 & 2); Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices; Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp; Set, style and dress hair; Dry, style and finish hair using hairdressing techniques; Instruct and advise on products and services.

Year 2:
Colour and lighten hair; Cut and clipper hair using hairdressing techniques; Participation in college commercial salon.

Entry Requirements

National 4 English, or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 4. Applicants who do not meet this criteria, but have relevant experience or alternative qualifications will be considered. Applicants must be over 16. Interview and task.
