This course is aimed at people who wish to pursue a career working with community groups and who are already, or would like to become involved in community based development work.

The course provides a nationally recognised qualification and is designed to provide qualifications and credit for skills, qualities and knowledge developed through experience of working within the community. Students will undertake a placement in the statutory or the voluntary sector doing community work, youth work or adult education to give them valuable practical experience.

Content:

Planning Resources; Learning Approaches; Group Work; Principles and Practice; Social Science Approaches; Workplace Practice; Adult Learning; Graded Unit; Working with Young People.

Placement Information: Central to the course is a mandatory work placement. Students will be in the college for two days a week and undertake the placement during the remainder of the week. Learners can use existing paid or voluntary work for their placement or may be supported to find a placement.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers or relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6 plus experience of working in the community. Selection will be by interview and pre-interview written task.

Progression Routes

BA Community Education, Social Science or Social Work degree programmes or into paid community work.
