This popular joint degree programme offers you a grounding in sociology and social anthropology.

Year 1:
You will study compulsory sociology and anthropology courses which investigate why people act as they do.

These courses will also introduce you to key sociological and anthropological ideas. You will study the relationship between individuals and groups, and get an insight into: digital lives; race; ethnicity;
power.

Year 2:
You will study how sociologists produce and use theory, and research evidence.

You will also study classic and contemporary ethnography and key concepts in social anthropology.

Year 3:
You will learn practical research skills, carry out a group research project and study social theory.

Year 4:
In Year 4 you will complete an individual research project in either discipline supported by a member of teaching staff.

Standard entry:
4 Highers at AAAB (first sitting) or AAAA (two sittings) plus English at National 5.

Widening access entry:
4 Highers at ABBB (two sittings) plus English at National 5. Highers at BBB must be achieved in one sitting.
