The course develops the underpinning theoretical knowledge, direct practice experience, values and understanding gained previously.
The HND Additional Support Needs course offers a qualification that is generally seen as equivalent to second-year undergraduate level. During the course you will be introduced to Abertay University and their BA in Learning Disability. If you successfully complete HND Additional Support Needs, you can apply directly to the third year of the BA programme where you will continue your studies to complete the BA in Learning Disability. The university also offers an Honours year for this programme.
The course will develop your first line managerial knowledge and skills through the delivery of units including:
Effective leadership and management; Managing quality; ASN: Working in an Additional Support Needs setting; A Graded Unit; Collaborating with other agencies; Purposes and processes of assessment; Programme planning; Business communication; Autism; Work Placement in a relevant ASN setting.
Assessment is continuous. There is no final examination.
Relevant HNC plus relevant experience. Interview. Satisfactory reference.
Application to the BA Learning Disability/ Difficulties at Abertay University. Application for social work, teaching and other related degrees, or enhanced employment in supporting children or adults in additional support needs contexts.
