Construction is the largest industry in Britain, employing around 2 million people. It employs people in over 20 different craft trades from bricklaying to wall and floor tiling.
Glasgow's successful bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the £3 billion Scottish Transport Investment programme, combined with the knock-on effect of building work for the 2012 Olympics will mean increased demand for construction workers. Employment is expected to grow in Scotland between now and 2012.

This course will give you practical experience in several different trades, for example: brickwork, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery, and plumbing.

Work experience/placements
Due to health and safety requirements it is not normally possible to arrange a construction work experience placement for young people. However, where possible, you may be able to visit sites or construction companies.
Assessment will be based on a range of practical workshop activities in real or simulated workplace settings. Tutors will observe and keep records of your work. Some assessment may be done online using an e-portfolio system.
