Content

The PDA Production and Retail Horticulture course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required for employment within the production and retail industry.

It allows you to develop an understanding of the theory and terminology of horticulture, required in this sector and help you enhance your employability skills.

You'll gain a broad grounding in plant nutrition and irrigation, plant protection and horticultural machinery. Your studies will help you to develop your plant identification and retail skills, such as plant display, customer service and communication. The course allows for some specialisation in ornamental plant production, plant retailing and food crop production.

If you successfully complete the course you could expect to gain employment at technician or supervisor level, or you can progress to our HNC Horticulture course.

Example modules include: identify and name plants using their botanical names; organise the delivery of reliable customer service; monitor and control the growth of crops or plants; estimate resource requirements and programme work; organise the preparation and establishment of propagation materials; co-ordinate the collection of plants for sale or dispatch.
