This Engineering Pre-Apprenticeship Programme (SVQ Level 2) course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career within the engineering sector. It will allow you to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of modern engineering techniques while undertaking the SVQ Level 2 qualification in Performing Engineering Operations. This qualification is recognised by employers support progression to an Engineering Modern Apprenticeship. Previous students have successfully progressed to Modern Apprenticeships in the defence, manufacturing, engineering maintenance, shipbuilding and aerospace sectors.

Mandatory units
Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements ; Working efficiently and effectively in engineering; Using and communicating technical information.

Plus five optional units which may include the following:
Mechanical engineering; Mechanical maintenance and assembly; Computer numerical control machining (CNC); Computer dided design and draughting; Electrical wiring skills; Programmable logic controllers; Fabrication and welding.

In addition you could work as part of a team to undertake an Engineering Design Project which will consolidate the skills that you have learned throughout the course to produce an engineering artefact.

Entry Requirements

4 subjects at National 4 including Maths and a science or technological subject. Interview.
