This coaching and developing sport course will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical coaching skills you need to pursue a career in a sports-related field or to progress to Higher Education.

It aims to develop a pathway/certification for football coaches, leading to possible employment with Celtic Football Club. The HNC includes an embedded PDA in Sports Coaching at SCQF Level 7, which is jointly certificated with sportscotland and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA).

This includes 10 mandatory units and five options.

Sports development; Human anatomy, physiology and biomechanics in sport; Sports coaching practitioner: knowing yourself; Sports coaching practitioner: knowing others; Sports coaching practitioner: knowing coaching; Sports coaching and development: developing professional practice; Sports coaching and development: graded unit 1; Strength and conditioning; Psychology of sports coaching; Coaching children.

Entry Requirements

1 Higher prebably including an English based subject, or NQ Sport and Fitness (Level 6), or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6. Evidence of participation in a recognised sport or outdoor pursuit. Entry subject to interview, reference and possibly a fitness test.

Progression Routes

HND Coaching and Developing Sport; 1st or 2nd year entry to Bsc Hons Sports Coaching, Sports Development or Sports and Development at University of the West of Scotland. Employment in the Sports Industry.
