In year 1 you will take courses in Sports Science, Medical Science and Psychology or Chemistry.
Additional courses are selected from the science programme and other areas.
In year 2, further expansion of Sports Science and development of Exercise and Health studies are
provided. These are combined with more advanced studies in Physiology and Psychology or Biochemistry, and courses delivering key skills applicable to Sports Studies.
Year 3 covers Sports Science, Clinical Exercise Physiology and Sports Psychology form important components of year 3, including more specific studies in Anatomy, together with health-related issues including Nutrition, Health and Disease.
Year 4 comprises focused studies on Exercise and Health, the Science of Ageing and Nutrition, obesity and Metabolic Health. An important feature is the ten-week research project, carried out in research laboratories at the University or in local research institutes. If you choose to follow the five year MSci course, your fourth year will be spent on (paid) placement.
2025 entry requirements
Standard entry:
4 Highers at BBBB (by end of S5) including 2 maths or science subjects by end of S6 plus English, Maths and Chemistry or Physics at National 5. Those with Highers at BBB by end of S5 are encouraged to apply.
For second year entry you would require the above plus 3 Advanced Highers at ABB including two maths or science subjects at AB or BA.
Widening access entry:
2 Highers at BB (by end of S5). Additional Highers/Advanced Highers in S6.
1 Foundation Apprenticeship is accepted in place of a non-essential Higher.
