North Highland College UHI serves the communities of the northern mainland of Scotland. It is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) and has around 3,000 full and part time students.

The college has campuses in Thurso, Halkirk, Alness and Dornoch, each with its own distinctive curriculum profile.

Courses and subjects

The college offers a wide range of qualifications including National Certificate (NC), Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ), Higher National Certificate (HNC), Higher National Diploma (HND) and degree, as well as a range of professional qualifications.

Subjects are taught in the following subject areas: Business and Computing; Construction and the Built Environment; Creative Studies; Engineering, Technology and Energy; Environmental Science; Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy; Health, Education and Social Care; Hospitality and Professional Cookery; Humanities and Social Sciences; Rural Studies; Skills for Life, Learning and Employment; and Sport, Leisure and Tourism.

Facilities and services

The main campus at Thurso has a library with an extensive stock, study areas, computer access and printing facilities. Support and guidance services are available to students across all campuses.

Thurso Campus has specialist training facilities at: the House of Morven (hair and beauty salons, training restaurant); the Engineering, Technology and Energy Centre with engineering skills and fabrication and welding workshops; and the Environmental Research Institute.

Halkirk Campus is home to the Rural Studies Centre, a state-of-the-art facility for equine, gamekeeping and veterinary nurse students.

Alness Campus has digital audio and recording workstations and booths.

Dornoch Campus is home to the UHI Centre for History; a unique working training hotel, Burghfield House Hotel; and Ross House, the base for the Golf Management degree.
