Orkney College UHI courses serve the local community, from young people still at school to those wishing to study at degree and postgraduate level. It is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

There are three campuses: Main campus and the Institute for Northern Studies, both at Kirkwall, and Stromness Maritime campus.

Courses and subjects

There are courses at various levels, including Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), Higher National Certificates (HNCs), Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), degrees and postgraduate awards.

Courses are taught through a number of subject areas: Arts, humanities and social science; Business and leisure; Computing and IT; Creative and cultural industries; Education and childcare; Energy, engineering and construction; Gaelic medium studies; Health and wellbeing; and Science and environment.

Facilities and services

The main campus has a cafeteria and library facilities. Support and guidance for issues such as finance and health is available to all students at any campus.

Both Kirkwall and Stromness have a range of amenities and within the community there are clubs and societies for a wide range of interests.

Specialisms

The college is involved at the forefront of research in agronomy, archaeology and Northern studies.
