West Highland College UHI is an academic partner of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), providing learning opportunities to communities across the West Highlands of Scotland.
Although the college does not have a central campus, it has a wide network of 10 college centres across the region: Auchtertyre, Broadford, Fort William, Gairloch, Kilchoan, Kinlochleven, Mallaig, Portree, Strontian and Ullapool. Fort William runs the largest number of full time courses.
Courses and subjects
There are courses in a range of qualifications from introductory to degree level. Subject areas include: Adventure Studies; Business and Hospitality; Computing; Creative Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Energy, Engineering and Construction; and Health, Education and Child Care.
Facilities and services
The amenities available vary from centre to centre, but usually include computers with internet access, printing and copying facilities, study spaces and video conferencing equipment.
The Fort William Campus has a professional training kitchen and music recording studio. The Portree Campus also has a training kitchen, plus a hairdressing training salon, art studio and construction workshop.
Specialisms
The School of Adventure Studies, dedicated to outdoor and adventure related study, is based at Fort William, the outdoor adventure capital of the UK. The BA (Hons) Marine and Coastal Tourism is the first course of its kind in the UK.
