NQ Social Care (Level 6) is aimed at providing you with the skills and experience required to pursue a career in social care as a Support Worker or to progress towards the HNC Social Services. This course covers many aspects of the caring role with a range of service users. You will cover a range of NQ Care units at Level 6, as well as undertaking a placement element to the course.
During the course you will study the core units of:
Values and principles; Human development and behaviour; Social influences.
There will also be a number of specific social care units, which could include the following:
Care principles and practice; Health, safety and protection issues in care setting; Understanding of mental health and mental illness; Child protection: an introduction; Caring for people with dementia; First aid measures; Stress management.
There will also be Communication and Guidance units included.
4 subjects at National 5 at A or B including English. Relevant experience of care work, either paid or voluntary. Entry subject to interview.
You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.
Relevant HNC courses or employment in a social or health related profession at support worker level.
