If you are looking for a career in nursing, this could be the course for you. This course provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge in clinical settings. The HNC is a recognised entry qualification for study progression to Adult, Mental Health, Child and Learning Disability Nursing and midwifery.

You'll learn about:
Essential Skills for Care Practice; Safe Working Practice for Care; Individual Pathways in Health and Social Care; Principles of Professional Practice; Sociology for Care Practice; Therapeutic Relationships: Understanding Behaviour; Understanding Personal and Professional Development.

This course also includes a mandatory work placement within NHS Scotland. Shift patterns are a requirement including 12-hour shifts.

Entry Requirements

2 Highers including English plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5; or 1 Higher, preferably English, plus Foundation Apprenticeship Social Services and Healthcare plus Maths or Applications of Maths at National 5; or NC Healthcare or Social Care (Higher); or other relevant national qualifications at SCQF Level 6.

All applicants who meet the entry criteria will be asked to complete a personal statement, and provide 2 satisfactory references.

You will require a satisfactory criminal record check from Disclosure Scotland to show that you are suitable for this type of course. Contact Disclosure Scotland for details on the type you would need.

Progression Routes

This HNC enables you to progress onto University degree programmes such as nursing or to NHS employment (clinical framework 3) or care worker positions in both the private and public sectors.
