Foundation Art and Design

Robert Gordon University

Content

Our Foundation Art & Design course is a comprehensive first year experience that explores your understanding of the art and design subject areas through a wide variety of creative activities and opportunities. We will enable your journey through the creative landscape by supporting your discoveries. You will experience diverse ways of thinking, doing, making, and designing before.

You will participate in a series of core and multidisciplinary projects where you are encouraged to explore your creative process, unpacking and critiquing ideas through selected course specific experiences. Our highly professional staff will then help you to identify your motivations and provide guidance on the most appropriate creative direction and subject areas for you moving into second year.

You will benefit from encouragement to experiment and transform ideas; collaborate with peers and find new ways of expressing yourself. Your newfound knowledge and skills will be applied within real-world activities and situations that will in turn help you to develop a greater understanding of creativity, critical thinking, sustainability, and apply them within a variety of contexts and projects.

On this course you will experience a combination of environments including studios and drawing rooms, lecture theatres and a wide range of practical workshops. Our connected and structured learning will promote a greater understanding of the sustainable, critical, and creative skills that you will need to flourish as a future professional practitioner in the Creative and Cultural industries. The Gray’s School of Art community allows you to work in partnership with staff who will support and nurture you through your decisionmaking process, providing you with tutorial guidance to help you identify where your interests and strengths lie.
